Busy season for busy Moms. There’s a whole lot of busy in that title, right?
First off, you’re a Mom – so that in and of itself is a recipe for non-stop BUSY.
Secondly, you’re a business owner/entrepreneur/boss – so that’s an extra recipe for even more busy.
So, prepping your business for busy season might seem daunting, impossible, or even out of reach.
BUT, I will tell you that if you prep your business the right way for busy season, it won’t seem as busy or swallow you up at the end.
You CAN take on more work, and thrive doing so, but you gotta put forth the effort and time into making that possible, even if it makes life a little more complicated and busy for a moment.
You ready?!
1. Get organized
Before anything else can be accomplished in your business, being organized is the first step to take when you’re seeking an optimal way to get stuff done and prepare for busy season.
If you have all of your paperwork shoved in a corner of your office without any rhyme or reason, how quickly are you able to find what you need and be more proficient with your time?
I’m guessing you’ll end up wasting a lot of time actually.
Take it from someone who has moved countless times in the past 1.5 years.
All of my business documents, client records, tools and spreadsheets, have been a mess in and out of boxes in several locations of our home.
For months of not having an organized workspace, I wasn’t able to work efficiently because everything that I needed to get my hands on was out of reach.
I would end up wasting 30 minutes trying to find a single piece of paper that would be a cakewalk if I had a better organized system.
Now that the moving madness has ended and my workspace is setup, I don’t have these issues anymore. I am able to get what I need promptly without wasting time doing so.
This has saved me hours of mindless hunting during a work week – giving me even more time to devote to other important tasks in my business.
And being organized doesn’t have to stop with paper filing, it can be spread out into a multitude of aspects of your business.
Do you have a tidy email inbox or sorted folders in your account?
Are the files on your computer easy to find in a good folder system?
Are your client files, documents, and projects saved online in a way that is easy to locate for them and for yourself?
Do you have a functional workflow set in motion?
These are just the tip of the ice burg questions to ask yourself when it comes to organization.
You can’t be too organized in your business, so make it a priority now so you can start your busy season on the right foot this year!
2. Have a solid workflow in place
If you have a set business routine, adding more clients to the lineup will run much smoother in the long run.
If you don’t have a set workflow in place, well, you might as well dig yourself an early grave – kidding – sorta.
Being able to work efficiently, as well as proficiently, will create a streamlined business that runs like a well-oiled machine.
What if you don’t have a workflow set in motion?
Then create one, NOW!
Think of all the steps that you take in your business; every last little detail that you do over and over for every sale, client, or customer.
Now think of how you can better streamline those tasks.
Do you email back and forth a lot to clients? You might consider drafting a few pre-written email responses that you send out daily to potential clients.
Perhaps you struggle coming up with graphics to promote your business? Why not create a few pre-made templates that you can save and switch out the lettering and photos as needed?
I personally use Canva for this task and it makes creating graphics super quick and efficient!
Only you can determine how to craft a perfect workflow, but doing so is a must if you want to survive your next busy season!
3. Update forms and documents
Do you use contracts, questionnaires, order forms, or other documents regularly for your business?
Making sure they are up-to-date, readily available, and perfectly organized is essential if you’re aiming for a smooth-sailing busy season.
There’s nothing quite like scrambling at the last minute trying to send over a document to a client to fill out and realizing it’s way out of date, or what you knew you wanted to fix that typo that you had noticed before.
Been there, done that. ALL TOO MANY TIMES.
Instead of scrambling and giving yourself more work to do in the moment, go through all of your documents and paperwork to make sure it’s all up to par and ready to go.
Once this is set in place, it will put your mind at ease knowing you’ve got it all handled!
4. pre-make content
If you regularly blog for your business or share content on social media, it’s always a bit more tricky to juggle this during your most busy time of the year.
Creating content ahead of time, before busy season strikes, not only prepares you better, but it will keep your marketing efforts alive and kicking without slowing you down (or drowning you altogether with extra work).
Not only should you create content ahead of time, but you can also take it a step further and schedule content ahead of time.
You can easily do this on Facebook with their scheduler, using a third party app like Buffer, or creating your own schedule and manually posting as needed.
Whatever way you decide to go, creating content ahead of time and having a publishing plan will make your busy season go even smoother than a baby’s little bottom.
And THAT’S pretty smooth.
